Who we are & where you end up:

We, Markus & Josi, are living with 39 Sleddogs in northern Finland, Ivalo. Next Airport is in about 20 driving minutes distance.Next shop: 10 minutes. Our dogs are our family and they live together in groups in a henced forest area of 10000 sqm. Most of our dogs are second-hand or from vet confiscation. Animal welfare and an dog-appropriated life with meeting their social and mental needs, are very important to us. During winter, guests spent 6 days with us and experience sled-driving with their own team.

What we are looking for:

° Responsible personalities, with empathy towards animals and people

° Independent thinking and acting (recognizing problems, solving problems)

° Previous experience with dogs is an advantage but not a must (we will introduce you to working with our dogs,

but you should have a certain feeling for animals and especially dogs)

° Practical skills would be desirable, as the work in the camp is all-round activities (from mucking out the stable to Dog handling, up

to larger and smaller repair work)

° Enjoyment of nature (and solitude). We work outside at any time of day and weather conditions. You will get dirty and you will be

cold. You have dog hair on all your clothes and the smell of firewood in your hair. Besides working at the camp, you are for you and

should be able to enjoy your own company. In Ivalo and the surrounding area there are cross-country ski trails, hiking networks, a

ski area, restaurants and shopping opportunities. And of course you can always do something with our dogs. Nevertheless, social life is not comparable to Central Europe.

° You should have a certain level of basic fitness (hauling food sacks and watering cans, handling large dogs, Accompanying trekking

   tours and guests on sleighs)
° We work as a team. Each of us is involved in all tasks, but there is a clear division of labor.

° We run a small family business and have a 2-year-old child. Your appearance towards the guests should be professional and

courteous. You are in active exchange with guests who spend up to 6 days with us until the next group of guests arrives (max. 6

   guests per week).

° Your tasks also include: involvement in dog training in autumn, daily animal care (cleaning outdoor enclosure for dogs, chickens and yaks), cleaning of the guest accommodation, leading trekking tours and introduction to Terrain orientation and trail knowledge, small and large repair work in the camp, shopping, instructing guests, preparing daily campfire lunches and accompanying guests on sleigh tours as a co-guide. See “what we offer” for more information about RACE TEAM support.

What we offer:

° Authentic work with sled dogs in group keeping (knowledge of group communication, dog psychology, FirstAid with dogs, human-dog communication, training structure for sled dogs, basics of mushing, insights into our animal welfare work)

° October - December: free food and accommodation and use of the traditional Finnish sauna

° From mid-December: monthly pocket money by arrangement, as well as additional free accommodation. During your working hours you will receive free food in the camp. On days off, you are responsible for your own food.

° Accommodation is selected depending on arrival (whether 2 individual dog handlers or as a couple/friends)

° Employment reference after the end of the season

° Upon request and suitability: Preparation of the racing team and participation in long training days away from the Tourism business, as well as accompanying Markus to a local race as a dog handler.

We expect honesty and a good will to work. But that's exactly what we give back: clear communication towards you. We try to show you the authentic life in the north with our animals and hope you can fill your soul on this adventure :)

If all of this appeals to you, we look forward to hearing from you.
